Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS): State of Science and Regulation in Air and Industrial Hygiene

Tuesday, October 10, 2023 2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT
Host: AIHA
By: Bharat Chandramouli, PhD, Product Director, SGS North America

PFAS are quickly moving from emerging contaminant to regulated contaminant. With attention at the highest levels of the federal government, and with spending on PFAS characterization, remediation and other issues exceeding $1B per year, there are many technical and regulatory variables on PFAS to consider. Much of the attention has focused on drinking water and contaminated sites. However, PFAS are an emerging issue in air, general occupational exposure, and industrial hygiene. Everything from the specific PFAS to how we measure and regulate could be different for IH applications. In this webinar, we will discuss the current state of PFAS with specific focus on industrial hygiene and air. The learning objectives are:

  • What are PFAS? Why are they a concern? What are the Industrial hygiene implications? Are PFAS volatile?
  • How are PFAS measured? What are the techniques involved? How do they vary by application?
  • What is the overall regulatory picture on PFAS? Where does air and industrial hygiene stand on measurement and regulation?
  • What can we learn from indoor and occupational exposure case studies on PFAS, especially focusing on the inhalation pathways?
